Bike ride to Monster B's

Last night I ended up taking a motorcycle ride with my buddy Jay. We couldn’t figure out where we wanted to head out for and someone recommended Monster B’s in Stamford, CT.

I wasn’t expecting too much, but their website had some great beers on it. There was a great atmosphere there and it wasn’t crowded, even on the huge outside patio.

The biggest surprise of the night was the open mic/ blues night. It was the perfect night for some blues and this was some of the best I have heard. The band that hosts the open mic is Roxy Perry and I instantly became a huge fan. Apparently they play every other Thursday and I am going to make it a point to be there!

The Beers:

Lagunitas – Olde Gnarly Wine

This is not just a great 80’s style name. For some reason I always want to go big with my first beer and this one doesn’t disappoint. It has some definite fruit aroma and taste. This is listed as a seasonal by Lagunitas and it is on tap. I would love to get some of this in some bottles and age it in my basement. Who am I kidding? The beer never lasts that long.

Weyerbacher – QUAD

According to their web site, Weyerbacher QUAD is the first quadruple style beer to be commercially brewed and bottled in the United States. I liked the complex aroma of this beer, but it didn’t seem to match the taste. You can tell there is a high alcohol content (11.8%), but the overall flavor seemed generic for a quadruple. I may be biased because this is the style of beer I was first introduced to, but I don’t think this can stack up to the Dutch or Belgian counterparts.

Dogfish Head – Chicory Stout
